Not for the squeamish
Preparations well under way for the medical tests

The biggest queue in the registration tent was to take part in the medical study being carried out by Manchester Metro and Wolverhampton Universities. This involves giving 3 blood samples over the weekend so LAMM competitors are obviously not squeamish.

The process was quite intensive, and involved a questionnaire, being weighed, taking a blood sample, cardiogram and blood pressure readings. The aim is to look at the muscle damage caused by the race and any changes to cardiac function, and the team will be taking another set of tests at the mid camp and a third set at the finish. They have carried out similar work with triathletes in the past and denied they also wanted to bring a psychiatrist to study the sanity of those taking part.
