LAMM2003
will take place on 14/15 June 2003 at another
excellent location in the Scottish Highlands.
We’ll give you some clues before you enter
but the exact venue will as usual only be
released at 16.00 on Thursday 12th June,
36 hours before the event starts.
We are very grateful to Lowe Alpine who
continue their support of the connoisseurs
Scottish Mountain Marathon in 2003. See
www.lowealpine.com
Other sponsors include SPORTident Timing
who manufacture the most robust, reliable
and competitor friendly electronic timing
systems for mountain, orienteering, biking
and adventure races. See www.SPORTident.co.uk.
Please
visit the all-singing, all-dancing new
online LAMM
shop. It's a excellent addition to the
site and thanks are due to Mark McBride
for his assistance. Now all we need is a
larger portfolio of goods to supply online.
Many
thanks to Andrew Leaney who has assembled
the 2002 photo galleries. Visit Leaney's
Lakeland Fells at www.leaney.org
We
have a new planner this year. Andy Creber
is a regular LAMM competitor who has planned
and controlled various KIMMs and Capricorns.
More details about Andy later. We wish him
all the best as he takes over from Jon Sutcliffe,
who did a great job last year. Our controller
is Angela Mudge, well known to many of you
as Britain's top lady mountain runner. Angela
competes throughout the Summer months on
the European mountain race circuit and most
years she can't make it to the LAMM as a
competitor but usually helps to put out
checkpoints in the week before the LAMM.
We're very grateful that she spare the time
to mix some training and controlling on
the terrain.
The usual suspects will be present at the
LAMM. Wilfs will provide their excellent
fare on Friday night and Saturday morning.
They will also feed everyone after the event
is over on Sunday. See www.wilfs-café.co.uk.
The marquees are booked so the focal points
for renewing old acquaintances and making
new friends are in place.
We’ll produce a special Ordnance Survey
map of the area, help you to find partners
and arrange lifts to the event. We’ll be
pleased to put those of you flying to local
airports in touch with each other so that
if you are arriving early on the Friday
you can join up with another team to hire
a car. This worked very well in 2002. Those
of you flying in later can take our coach
to the Event Centre. We’ll bring you back
to the airport on Sunday.
Joe Faulkner, also one of our regular competitors,
is organising another series of mountain
navigation training weekends in the
Lakes on 22/23 March, 17/18 May, 12/13 July,
16/17 August and 20/21 September. See www.tuaproducts.fsnet.co.uk
There should be no need for an unseemly
rush to enter the LAMM, as it doesn’t normally
fill until May. However, in the last few
years the event has filled and we have turned
a few teams away. If there are still places,
we will allow late entry right up to the
event.
We look forward to seeing you all again
in mid-June and in the meantime we wish
you an enjoyable time preparing on the hills
for LAMM 2003.
Best wishes
MARTIN STONE
