LAMM WEATHER FORECAST
by David Braine - Senior Meteorologist BBC

2 day Forecast for the LAMM

Area is Spittal of Glenshee to Blair Atholl

Synoptic Situation at 1200UTC on Friday 13th June 2003

Low 1009mb Lerwick moves slowly east and fills. High 1025mb centred over Plymouth moves northeast to lie off Humber 1025 by midday Saturday. A weak weather front will cross the local area in the evening on Saturday then a new high builds and develops and extends a strong ridge over much of Scotland by midday Sunday. The area will lie in a warm, stable, humid, light to moderate W'ly flow.

Tonight - Any isolated showers will die out to give a fine dry night and with light winds some mist could form in the glens. Lowest temperatures between 6 and 10C.

Saturday - After a bright dry start increasing amounts of cloud will move in from the northwest to bring a few light showers into the evening. Otherwise it should be largely dry and fine with some sunshine to start the day, the sunshine becoming increasingly hazy through the day. Winds will be light and mainly from the south no more than 5-10mph in the glens, 12-17mph above 1000m. Temperatures ranging from 10C in the early morning to as much as 20C by early afternoon, 20C is 68F.

Saturday night - Any patchy rain will move away but for a time some low cloud/hill fog will cover the hills above 700m, clearing away to the east by early morning. Overnight winds will be W'ly 10-15mph and temperatures falling to between 8 and 11C.

Sunday - Starts fine and warm with some hazy sunshine and only patchy cloud, a few showers may develop in the afternoon mainly for the hills and mountains above 500m but these will be isolated and for the most part it will be a dry day. Light SW'ly winds, 10-12mph in the glens and 15-20mph above 1000m and temperatures will reach 18-22C (72F) so it will feel warm and humid.

NOTE

There is a moderate risk of heat stress this weekend, warm humid weather will make the conditions challenging, also the sun index (on a scale of 1 to 10) is 5 or 6 so the appropriate pre-cautions should be taken to avoid damage to the skin.
