The Connoisseurs Mountain Marathon

After a great event at Glen Fyne, the LAMM is heading "North" again in 2011 and we hope you will join us at another magnificent location.

The Lowe Alpine Mountain Marathon is a 2-day mountain orienteering event that takes place each year in the Scottish Highlands. The emphasis is always on providing challenging routes in classic high mountain country. The event has a tradition for transporting teams to a number of undisclosed start locations on Saturday morning to make best use of the terrain.

Those who join us each year will tell you that the LAMM is a very friendly and it is a compact event with a limit of approx. 500 teams. Apart from providing average travelling time, the LAMM creates a great sense of anticipation by keeping the venue secret until 36 hours before the event. We have courses for all abilities - 5 linear and one score.

The LAMM will take you to wonderful Scottish mountain areas that you may otherwise never take the time to visit. The 2011 area is scattered with Munros and Corbetts and we've worked hard to find a site for the Midcamp that allows us to provide great courses for all. The Midcamp will be a another wild mountain location .....

Once again Andy Spenceley will be our planner, Dave Coustick, Brian Jackson and Angela Mudge our controllers. Andrew Leaney will manage our website, provide results and a live webcast during the weekend itself and Jon Brooke will be writing reports for the website and taking photographs that you can purchase online after the event. Twenty or so friends of the event will help as marshals during the weekend.

Please enter without delay as the event fills very quickly. We look forward to seeing you again on 11/12th June for the "Connoisseurs Mountain Marathon".

LAMM 2010 Photo Competition
Well done to Chris Naylor and and Jonathan Hoo, winners of the 2010 competiton. You can see their winning photos on the LAMM home page www.lamm.co.uk and all 89 photos that were submitted can be viewed here. This is by far the most photos we have ever received and the annual competition goes from strength to strength. Many thanks for your contributions.

Serious Accident at LAMM 2010 - A Very Positive Outcome For The Guys & Arrochar MR Team
Many of you will be aware of the accident and subsequent mountain rescue that took place on LAMM Sunday morning. It is probably the most serious incident on an MM to date. Rob Latimer wrote about the incident and agreed that we should publish it on the website. Although it has taken some months, Martin and Rob have made very good recoveries and colleagues from Martin's Company, Hymans-Robertson, raised a fantastic £10,000 to help purchase and fit out the new Land Rover for the Arrochar Mountain Rescue Team to a very high specification. You can read all about Martin's rescue, how it contributed to the saving of another life a week later and amazing fundraising that means that following the LAMM, more than £12,000 will have been contributed to the Arrochar Team. The new Land Rover will be fitted out within the next few weeks. Read more here.

All the best for the Winter Season and see you next June somewhere in the Scottish Highlands .......
